              YOUR ROO THEATRE FAMILY

Gordon Streek - Founder, Chairman, & Roo Legend

              Picture
Gordon is the back-bone of the Roo Theatre, having founded it back in 1987. Gordon's most enjoyable experience to date was doing all of the research for "Quarry", and writing lyrics with Jon Suffolk the composer, and he says that watching the show come together was an amazing delight, and then having seen the opening performance was pure magic. I asked Gordon about any footprints he had made on the Roo, we all know they lie in just about every element of the place, although his answer was "I don't know about footprints, but my fingerprints are there". When asked about his favourite show, Gordon thought long and hard, and came up with "All My Sons", as it was as near to perfection than any director could ever hope for.

" I'd like to wish a very very Happy 25th Celebration to The Roo Theatre. May you grow and prosper and be the scene for many more exciting, challenging, relevant and FUN productions and performances for another century!! Thankyou for the 25 years of creative opportunities, the friendships, the camaraderie, laughter and tears, and making a dream come true. Not forgetting the grey hair and bad back!!  Thanks Gordon"

              Jean Ogilvie - Co-Founder & Secretary

              Picture
Jean, much like Gordon, is to thank for what we have today. It was 25 years ago that she and a team of iconic individuals founded The Roo Theatre. Still to this day, Jean is the Roo Theatre Treasurer, and she's also quite the little Treasure herself. Jeans most enjoyable experience to date, would have to be listening to the ‘OOH’S and AAHH’S’ from the audience after scene changes in "Annie" and "Chorus Line". Jean's footprint has been left in a big way, as she is responsible for the costumes the Roo has today - including costumes from our very first show "We Sha'll Work, We Sha'll Live" and still growing strong. I asked Jean what her favourite production in the past 25 years has been, and she responded "Very difficult question – we have had a lot of superb shows. 'Cabaret' stands out and also ‘Hamlet’. Jean has been involved in SO many productions over the past 25 years, and this box just wasn't big enough to list them all, but some are : All My Sons; Stepping Out; Over the Edge; ‘Allo, ’Allo; Wild; September in the Rain; Funny Peculiar & still performing in 2012's The Full Monty.

"Happy Birthday Roo, I’m sure Roo will continue over the next 25 years to do what it does best – instilling self confidence in members - both young and old – who have either participated in classes or graced the stage. Ta, Jean"

Martin Moore - Committee Member & Handyman Extraordinaire

              Picture
Martin joined The Roo in 2009, after his youngest daughter insisted he audition for a show, since then, Roo hasn't been the same. Martin has brought a great vibe of energy and fun to The Roo Theatre, and is always around to lend a hand in any way possible. He and his entire family are always helping backstage, on-stage, and front of house. Martin joined the Roo Committee in 2010, and hopes to become more involved in the direction and production of shows continuing the high standard the company has set. His most enjoyable experience with The Roo was his first show, "Run For Your Wife", a great introduction to performing (all twenty-seven seconds on stage) and the welcome his family and he received into the Roo Theatre. I asked Martin to tell us what his favourite show has been since his arrival at the Roo, and his response was "A Senior Youth class performance of "Hating Alison Ashley". Not a big budget production, but performed with humour and energy and very entertaining. It is also great to see a number of the cast still involved with the Roo. Martin has been involved in 'Run for your Wife', 'Digger's Darling', and currently 'The Full Monty'.

" Congratulations to the Roo Theatre and a special thankyou to all of those who have been involved in the creation and continuation of the best community theatre in the Illawarra, where audiences, performers, production staff and our theatre students have been enjoying themselves for 25 years. Here's to the next 25!!!
